"HE WHO WANTS TO FEEL THE PRESENCE OF ETERNAL POWER SHOULD COME TO THE SACRED BHUVNESHWAR SITUATED NEAR THE CONFLUENCE OF RAMGANGA, SARAYU AND GUPT-GANGA."
-About Patal Bhuvneshwar, as described in the Mana-skhanda of SKANDAPURAN*

At an elevation of 1,350 mts, Patal Bhuvneshwar is a limestone cave Temple. This awesome cave is believed to be as old as the earth itself. Patal Bhuvaneshwar is not just one cave. These are series of caves within caves. Legend has it that this 160 mts long and 90 ft deep cave enshrines Lord Shiva & 33 crore Gods.

Inside the cave, limestone rock formations have created various spectacular stalactite and stalagmite figures in such a manner that some wonderful sculptures are formed.

Logics apart, but some of these natural carvings in the cave are so clear that one could easily figure out what it is. The shapes of Gods, Goddesses and saints. The tongue of Kali Bhairav, Aravat of Indra and hairs of Lord Shiva. Lot of miniature models of temples, birds, animals etc. It is also believed that almost all the pilgrimage places of Himalayas are sculptured here inside this Godly cave.

HISTORY*
According to legend, King Rituparna of the Sun dynasty discovered the cave in Treta-Yug. Adi Shankaracharya visited this cave in 1191 AD. That was the beginning of the modern pilgrimage history, at Patal Bhuvaneshwar. The Stone formations of Sheshnag can be seen holding earth, heaven and the world beneath. The cave is believed to be connected by an underground route to Mount Kailash. it is also believed that the Pandavas proceeded towards their last journey in the Himalayas after meditating here, in front of Lord Shiva.

NOTE : Cameras and mobile phones are not allowed inside the cave.

3. KALAMUNI TEMPLE...Maa Kali's Temple

State : Uttrakhand
District : Pithoragarh

Approx DISTANCE from-
Delhi : 555 kms
Nainital : 265 kms

TOUR SUMMARY
Delhi - Moradabad - Kaladungi - Nainital - Almora - Berinag - Chaukori - Thal - Tejam - Kalamuni Temple.

PANCHACHULI from Munsiyari
Kalamuni Top, mounted at 9500 feet(2895 mts) above sea level, is famous for red coloured TEMPLE OF GODDESS KALI dedicated to Naga God. Naga sadhus can be seen here around the year. Situated just beside the main road, there is a fresco of the goddess in the outer wall of the temple.

Besides the idol of Goddess Kali, the temple has a Shiv-Linga, the idols of Ganesha and of saint Kalamuni.

A fantastic view of snow-capped Himalayan ranges from here is an icing on the cake. Flanked by the sprawling pine forest this place offers the first glimpse of Panchachuli peaks. 15 km before Munsiyari, it is the highest point of the route from Chakauri to Munsiyari. The first snowfall of winter happens here.
For Local People and drivers, this temple is very sacred. Due to a steep Kalamuni top's ascent, narrow roads and very sharp curves, it is considered to be an accident-prone area. So, it is believed that visiting this temple ensures a safe journey.

An absolutely stunning trek of Thamri Kund (around 3 km, one way) begins from just beyond this temple which takes you to a natural freshwater lake.

PILGRIMAGE in HIMALAYAS

Respect Nature. She Reciprocates!

Mountains are the World’s Water Towers. Water, stocked as Glaciers, flows downwards in form of rivers. Besides satisfying our thirst, it also sustains most of the food production in addition to the maintenance of various green belts that generate the basic requirement of our life, the oxygen.

My birthplace, Delhi is a wonderful place, just a few hundred kilometers away from world's most famous water towers, The Towering Himalayas. And whenever we want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city we head straight into the lush green wilds of the Himalayas to breathe easy in the lap of raw nature. With an almost endless list of destinations, blessed with delightful landscapes and colourful trails for all tastes, capacities & capabilities, Himalaya, we believe is the abode of Gods. However, spending time in such serene surroundings brings its own responsibilities too...

...avoid littering around. Use eco-friendly produce during the journey.
